A soldier from Norfolk who was injured in an explosion in Iraq last month has died, the Pentagon said late Wednesday.
The Department of Defense said Sgt. Jevon K. Jordan, 32, died Saturday at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany.
Jordan was wounded March 23 in Abu Jassim, Iraq, when the vehicle he was in encountered an improvised explosive device, the Pentagon said.
Jordan was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division based at Fort Stewart, Ga.
He was a tanker, meaning he was an armored crew member, said Kevin Larson, a spokesman for the base. Jordan was an expert on the M1 tank.
According to his page on MySpace.com, Jordan attended Granby High School from 1990 to 1993 before transferring to Salem High School in Virginia Beach where he graduated in 1994. He then went on to attend Tidewater Community College for two years and majored in Political Science.
He joined the Army in April 2003 and arrived at Fort Stewart in July 2006, Larson said. The 4th Brigade Combat Team deployed in November for 15 months.
"I'm about making it in life," he wrote on his page, where he listed himself as "a proud parent."
He leaves behind his wife, Michelle Jordan; daughter, Michelle Jevontae Jordan; son, Tony Jordan; stepsons, Cory Baker and Zakees Baker, according to his obituary. A wake will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at Graves Funeral Home at 1631 Church St. in Norfolk. A funeral will be held at the funeral home at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
He will be buried at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, his obituary says.
"I have big dreams for me and my kids," Jordan wrote on his page. "I hustle to get what I need. I'm a firm believer in working for yourself, and not anybody else... the American dream is alive and well and I plan on living it by any means."

Condolences ..........& Re: Beachgirl
Thank you Sgt Jordan for the ultimate sacrifice, & condolences to the family, friends, & fellow soldiers. Beachgirl-- Iraq, Military, Norfolk. see the 3 gray boxes upper left, comments are not "off topic" if they relate to those categories..besides I haven't read one comment(pertaining to this story), that detracts in any way from this soldier's service & sacrifice. Personally I am not against the war, but, feel that people who are against the war are not out of line in their comments if they consider death tolls, or even an individual's death in the forming of their opinion. The fact of the matter is, this news story is not categorized as an obituary or anything of the type, & the forum is for comments &/or opinions. Condolences are not necessarily mandatory, to stay within "posting guidelines".
May God Bless Sgt. Jordan & his family.....
May God bless Sgt.Jordan & his family for making the ultimate sacrifice--may his family find the strength to carry on--my thoughts & prayers are with you. Also, please bear in mind that this forum is to express your condolences to the Jordan family, not express your political views!
God Bless
His family. They supported him in his service to our country! I wish them peace and comfort in this time of tragedy. God Bless him. I pray that his kids will find a way to honor their dad by being everything God has planned for them. GodSpeed soldier man!
Thank you soldier for your duty and sacrifice. God bless.
God bless you Sgt. Jevon K. Jordan. May you rest in peace and your family get the support they need.
Katet
Katet, I must say that was very well put and all of your services are much appreciated. I also must say that the people fighting to continue this war and send over more soldiers are not always (though sometimes) the same ones willing to take on the responsibility of fighting for their country themselves. We are losing too many lives over a senseless cause. Please, to those of you who feel it is necessary to belittle those of us who object to this war, extend your support a little further and join the armed forces. Allow some of these soldiers to come home to their husbands, wives, children, as you prepare to leave a life, a home, a family you may never return to.
Thank You Sgt. Jordon
Our sincere thanks, codolences, prayers go to Sgt. Jordon and his family and friends for serving his country.
Sgt Jevon K. Jordan, USA - An American Hero
Our heartfelt condolences, thoughts & prayers go out to the Jordan Family for their loss. The Patriot Guard Riders are ready, willing and able to honor and show our respects to this soldier ... an America Hero, and his family.
With Sincere Respect,
Woody Wagner, PGR Hampton Rds
His American Dream 'at any cost'?
What does that mean? That dream no longer exists thanks to the government and all their coniving and lies. The average american can no longer thrive. We struggle to make ends meet daily. The rich get richer (Bush his cronies and i.e. the gas prices) WE can hardly afford to go to work much less pay the disgusting taxes on our hard earned homes...
Thank you for serving. My son is also in the military in Iraq... I hope that he comes home too, however I KNOW it wont be the young man that military sent over there.
Sgt. Jevon K. Jordan
