Norfolk's Senior Olympics set for kickoff in May

The Norfolk Senior Olympics, which city officials say is the largest such event in the state, will be held May 5 through May 8.

More than 1,000 citizens are expected to participate in competition at the Ocean View Golf Course, Norfolk Fitness and Wellness Center, AMF Norfolk Lanes bowling center and the Naval Amphibious Base in Virginia Beach.

Opening ceremonies will be held May 7 at 10:45 a.m. at Rockwell Hall on the Little Creek Amphibious Base.

To be eligible, participants must be 50 or older and residents of Norfolk.
