Motorists who rely on the Downtown Tunnel to get from Portsmouth to Norfolk should plan on a different route or some extra time this evening.
The Virginia Department of Transportation announced this afternoon that one lane will be closed this evening along Interstate 264 eastbound through the tunnel tonight.
The closure, to begin at 8 p.m. and continue until to 5 a.m., will allow crews to do maintenance work on tunnel lighting systems and to do cleaning.
