NORFOLK
Motorists with an early-morning commute that includes crossing the Berkley bridge may want to add some extra time to their travel schedule Tuesday morning.
The Virginia Department of Transportation has scheduled a 7:15 a.m. bridge lift that will affect traffic on Interstate 264.
While the bridge opens on demand for river traffic, it generally is not opened between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. or from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, to accommodate peak vehicle traffic periods. But Coast Guard regulations allow for it to open during those hours with advance notice to the public.

Berkley Bridge
Well it would be nice if they would stick to the published time...I left in plenty of time to get over the bridge by 7 am and sure enough...the bridge went up well in advance of the 7:15 published time....
well....
Well, they have a draw there because it goes to a different branch of the river than the tunnel serves. If a ship took over the tunnel instead of under the bridge they would not reach their destination. Second, it can't be some sailboater going North from FL, the only things down that branch are commercial ship yards.
Why?
Why do they need a drawspan right next to a tunnel? Can't the ships pass over the tunnel?
Hopefully commercial traffic
I hope it is commercial traffic and not some sailboater on way north from Florida.
