Three Chesapeake men have been charged with having roles in vandalizing at least 35 vehicles in the Western Branch section of Chesapeake last month.

One suspect told police that the group of 18-year-olds used a BB gun to shoot out windows of cars “because they were bored,’’ according to court records. The vandalism occurred between March 16-24, primarily in and around Joliff Road.

Thomas Ellis of the 200 block of Jones Street was charged with two felony counts of damaging property and 36 misdemeanor counts of damaging property.

Joseph Alexander Bell of the 1400 block of 18th Street was charged with two felony counts of damaging property and 36 misdemeanor charges of damaging property.

A third suspect, Shawn Harrell of the 1100 block of Joliff Road, was charged with two felony counts of damaging property and 31 misdemeanor counts of damaging property.

Ellis turned himself in to police on April 10, and the other two suspects were arrested April 11, police said.
