Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a blaze that destroyed a corporate office for 7-Eleven on Tuesday night.

Firefighters were sent to 814 Baker Road after a fire alarm went off at 8:54 p.m., said Battalion Chief Steve Lesinski of the Virginia Beach Fire Department.

Heavy smoke was coming from the single-story building when firefighters arrived, he said. The office was near Virginia Wesleyan College.

People in about six nearby townhouses were evacuated for more than an hour.

No one was injured. The fire’s cause is under investigation.
