CHESAPEAKE
When storms moved through Hampton Roads last week, Steve Knapp, his young son and nine Hickory Middle School students found themselves stuck on a school bus on Johnstown Road.
High winds had knocked two trees on the bus, giving Knapp a wound that spanned from cheek to chin, less than an inch from his carotid artery.
As they waited for rescue personnel – blocked by downed trees and heavy traffic – the students tended Knapp and helped calm his son. Despite losing a large amount of blood, Knapp survived and now calls the students heroes.
