The Buzz: Highs and lows

Posted to: Sports

DALLAS MAVERICKS FORWARD Josh Howard recently admitted on Michael Irvin's radio show that he smokes marijuana during the offseason.

That might explain why, come playoff time, Dallas' season always goes to pot.

Shifting interest

Randy Moss is outstanding in the clutch, but handling a clutch? Moss has formed a NASCAR Craftsman Trucks team, which is expected to begin racing in the second half of this year.

No word on whether Moss will get behind the wheel, which would be interesting because he has another gear.

Not wanting to read a book, University of Buffalo basketball player Andy Robinson used social networking site Facebook to solicit a student to write a report for him.

Robinson put up a message offering $30 to $40 for a volunteer to complete a three- to four- page assignment. On paper, Robinson said it seemed like a good idea, but he was caught by the Web of evidence.

Bowl over

The NCAA approved two additional bowl games for the upcoming season. The St. Petersburg Bowl in Florida, where mediocre teams go to retire. And the Congressional Bowl in D.C., where teams of questionable character and dubious records go to accomplish nothing.

Roger Clemens is quickly becoming the Bill Clinton of baseball. The New York Daily News reported Clemens had a relationship with Paulette Dean Daly, golfer John Daly's ex-wife.

Looking at John Daly, speculation arises about a connection to Paula Deen.

Lasting impression

Crosby probably had an icy relationship with the Maytag man.

Chiefs concern

In March, NFL defensive end Jared Allen opened a sports bar in Kansas City bearing his name. In April, Allen was dealt to Minnesota. The dejected staff of the establishment, who universally panned the trade, now serves food with no relish.

Spokesman needed

The Buzz has learned of a new game taking hold in Japan and Europe called cycleball, which is basically playing soccer while riding bicycles.

Participants kick using the wheels of the bike instead of their feet. The sport has potential; all it needs is a passionate promoter, someone who can pedal it.
