Gen X Mom

Being a mom is the biggest part of who I am.  Sometimes this is the best part of me and sometimes it is the worst. It is also a big part of who my kids are - as wonky as we may or may not seem. I would never ever presume to tell someone else how to raise their children or capriciously pass out advice.  Heck! It's not like I know what the hell I'm doing or anything!

Can't you tell they're children?

It seems that each time I walk down Colley Ave with the spawn, dudes have to say something.  I always turn around and sneer, " I'm their mom- can't you see that they're children?"  Then I point to each one and blast their ages "13!" then "16!”

The responses are pretty comical- horror, apologetic, stupefied, drunken babble.  We've covered the bases.

I guess I remember being hit on as a teen by older men- it was flattering that not only did they find me attractive but also they thought I was legal!  Thinking back on this, it just kinda creeps me out.

I look at my girls and I'm amazed at what beautiful young women they are- but ding dang it dudes- Can’t you tell they're children?!?!?

of course they know they aren't legal

but since when has that ever stopped anybody from making the comments?
