Chesapeake woman ordered to pay back illegally gained hurricane relief money

Posted to: News Norfolk

NORFOLK - A federal judge today ordered a Chesapeake woman to repay nearly $15,000 to the federal government for hurricane disaster relief she was not entitled to get.

U.S. District Judge Walter D. Kelley Jr. also sentenced Tamico J. Morgan, 37, to five years of probation. Morgan pleaded guilty to theft of government funds and making false statements.

Between 2005 and 2006, Morgan filed seven applications, in the names of other people, for disaster relief from hurricanes Katrina and Rita, citing damage done to homes in Louisiana. The homes, in fact, sustained no damage, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Several recent questionable sentences

It seems the courts are far too lenient with female criminals. When will this bias end?

Willy

Who cares? In the end there was no real punishment. So if you add in the court costs with the restitution which will never be paid, it actually cost us more. Perhaps she should have gotten stoned and run over our children to get an even lesser sentence.

Good

Don't stop, go after all the of them!

Bring the ruckus

It's nice to actually hear about SOMEONE getting slapped by the government for such fraudulent acts; however, I'm faintly suprised at the punishment. Maybe this was her first arrest/charge/conviction. Maybe she's hot and she wooed the judge. Maybe she used to be married to a magistrate. Maybe the judge had a wholesome breakfast. Nonetheless, being pro-active with such discipline is at least a step in the right direction.
