College financial aid blog launched

Posted to: News Virginia

The agency that oversees Virginia’s colleges today unveiled a financial-aid blog aimed at informally answering questions from college students, parents and educators.

The State Council of Higher Education staff will monitor the blog, found at vafinancialaid.wordpress.com. It comes online at a time of heightened concerns over the economy and the availability of affordable education financing.

Posts already include definitions, a request for viewers to share how they’re paying for college and links to other sources, such as a magazine article about avoiding loan scams.

At midday, for example, the lead item answered a question about filling out federal loan-qualifying forms by linking viewers to a 5-minute YouTube video that explained the process in semi-comic fashion using actors playing video game-playing students.
