Newsroom Staff: Devon Hubbard Sorlie

Assistant team leader and Clipper editor
Office phone: 757-222-5202

Devon moved to Chesapeake in 2003 after her son, Cameron, was accepted at Virginia Tech. She sold the weekly newspaper she and her late husband owned and operated for 16 years and headed back east for that in-state tuition and to be closer to family already in Chesapeake and Kentucky, where she grew up.

After a stint working as a temporary reporter for The Clipper, Devon found full-time employment as a reporter for Soundings, a civilian-run weekly newspaper covering the military owned by Military Newspapers of Virginia, a member of the Pilot Media Companies. Soundings was shut down in 2006 and Devon became managing editor for MNV until deciding to go back into community news in Feb. 2008 by becoming the editor of the Sun, a twice-weekly community tab for Suffolk similiar to the Clipper.

By July 2008 she moved into the Clipper editor position. A newsroom reorganization in November 2008 added the title of assistant editor for the Suburban team, which includes both Chesapeake and Suffolk bureau reporters.
