NORFOLK
Starting this morning, anyone traveling in the Monticello Avenue and Freemason Street area might need a different route for the next few days.
The detours come as the Monticello Avenue parking garage - once used by Tidewater Community College students, among others - is razed to allow construction of Wachovia Center near MacArthur Center.
Demolition work has begun, but starting today, portions of the garage closest to the nearby streets will start to come down. Work was beginning just after 8 a.m., and will continue through 8 p.m. It will resume from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. No work will be done Saturday, but demolition will resume from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.
Freemason Street will be closed from its intersection with Monticello Avenue to the west end of the MacArthur Center Garage. Access to the mall's service entrance, from Bank and Freemason streets, will be allowed.
The northbound lanes of Monticello between Freemason and Charlotte streets will be closed. Northbound traffic will be detoured onto Freemason, then right onto Granby Street, then right onto Charlotte and back to Monticello.
Monticello Avenue and Freemason Street will not be closed on Saturday.

It could also be a Tritium
It could also be a Tritium Exit Sign.
think about your comment before you make it...
Exit signs have emergency batteries in case the power goes out!!!
duh
why would they tear down a structure with the electricity still on? The "glowing" referred to the reflection of the sign. Maybe you need to move to Myrtle Beach.
A picture is worth a thousand words
You’ve got to love the city of Norfolk and the demolition company for thinking only for the safety of their workers. The caption on one of the pictures talks about the glowing exit sign - how thoughtful of the city to ensure that electricity was cut to the building being demolished. Workers taking down building added to active current in lines can only be an accident waiting to happen. Pilot - thanks for the awesome picture!
Norfolk's latest spending spree
This garage actually isn't very old,so the city is once again wasting tax money to replace one fairly recent public expenditure with another.Of course,if you live in Norfolk, your money is theirs, you just hang onto it until they find the next way to transfer it to the city or their developer friends. When people vote back into office the same corrupt crew, the same results will be assured. Now you know why Norfolk keeps losing taxpayers to the surrounding area.
