Police say a man formerly employed by the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office identified himself as a deputy sheriff to a convenience store clerk before patting her down.

Jon Schultz, 55, whose last known address was 30 N. Kingsbridge Place, was charged with assault and battery and impersonating a law enforcement officer, said Officer Christina Golden, spokeswoman for the Chesapeake Police Department.

Schultz was a 7-year Sheriff’s Office employee, said Sgt. David Rosado, office spokesman. He had worked in the correctional facility as a deputy sheriff.

Schultz was terminated due to “personnel issues” on May 13, two days before the alleged incident, Rosado said.

The incident occurred last Wednesday between 12:45 p.m. and 2 p.m.. A man apparently became upset after talking to the clerk at the 7-Eleven at the intersection of Battlefield Boulevard and Hanbury Road. Golden said that according to the police report, the man then said he was a deputy sheriff and went behind the counter.

Schultz was arrested Monday, Golden said.
