Grilled Basic Vegan Burgers or Soy Cheese Burgers

Posted to: Recipes

Serves: 4

2 (14-ounce) packages hamburger style Gimme Lean, broken into marble-size pieces (see note)

2 teaspoons garlic powder

2 teaspoons onion powder

Fresh ground pepper to taste

2 teaspoons Bragg Liquid Aminos

Olive oil

Season

Salt to taste (low sodium is fine)

Optional: thinly sliced soy cheddar or flavor of your choice 4 hamburger buns, such as Ezekiel 4:9 (see note)

Non-stick canola cooking spray

Prepare grill, being sure to oil the grate.

Using fingers, gently but thoroughly combine first five ingredients.

Divide into four equal parts and shape into patties about 3/4-inch thick.

Rub both sides generously with oil and sprinkle with Season Salt to taste. The patties may be made a few hours in advance, tightly covered and refrigerated. Gimme Lean is fully cooked, so grill until warm all the way through and until nice grill marks appear.

For cheeseburgers, cover top of patty with cheese during last minute or so of cooking. Spray lightly with non-stick Canola cooking spray and grill cut side down for just a couple of minutes or until toasty-brown. Variation

For the cheese-stuffed option, you'll need 1 (6-ounce) package Sunergia Soyfoods soy feta, any flavor, sliced into 4 disks. Prepare burgers, except divide mixture into 8 equal parts and shape into patties. Place a disk on half. Cover with remaining patties and seal around edges, maintaining a uniform thickness. Cook as directed.

Note Make sure to purchase hamburger style, not sausage style, Gimme Lean, as they are packaged almost identically.
