HAMPTON

A Hampton University graduate will take command of the U.S. Army garrison at Fort Monroe in a ceremony at 10 a.m. today.

Col. Anthony D. Reyes earned a degree in business management from Hampton and in 1984 received a commission in the field artillery corps, according to a news release. He most recently served as chief of the Army Diversity Office at the Pentagon.

Reyes replaces Col. Jason T. Evans, who has been preparing the fort for closure in 2011 as recommended by the Defense Base Realignment and Closure Commission. Evans will deploy to Baghdad, Iraq, for his next assignment.
