Happy Mothers' Day

Today is Mother’s Day, and for the first time in my adult life, I am able to take my mother out to a Mother’s Day luncheon.  Marvelous.

Mom and Archie - 1949Previously we had been separated by almost 800 miles and generally visited once a year, sometimes less depending on work schedules, projects, conventions, deployments etc.  Such visits entailed two days to get there, two days there, and two days to return.  Almost a week for a short visit, and all were tired out from the trip.

Now we are separated by only a stairwell and one floor; it is so much easier to visit, thus the first Mother’s Day Luncheon.

Funny thing, as a good son (As I feel I am!), I wanted to take my Mom to a nice place, somewhere she would ordinarily not go to, one that had fine food and excellent service.  After all, Mother’s Day is a special occasion and special occasions deserve special locations for eating out. Don’t they?

My Mom was ready to go out for a Mother’s Day meal when the idea was presented to her, but her remark at the restaurant idea resulted in a special request from my Mom, “Couldn’t we just go to Golden Corral?”

The photo above is of the two of us in 1949.  She is the taller of the two in the photo, the one on the left.

So, since it is “her” day, Golden Corral it will be.  I like Golden Corral myself, but it would not have been my choice for a special lunch.  When one reaches the sage age of 82, one has earned the right to have things their way, especially on their day.  It is Mother’s Day, not “Son’s Day,” so, Golden Corral, put out your best food and give us a bit of special service this special day.

Maybe Mom will take me to a fancy restaurant on my birthday.

Finally Put My Foot Down

and told my 93 year old mother and my two daughters, ages 22 and 21, It's Mother's Day tommorrow. I am the mother. There is a frozen pizza in the freezer and that's what we are having for dinner. Any questions? I didn't think so.

My Mother's Day Meal

My kids kept asking me what we were going to do for dinner- THEY wanted me to take THEM out to eat. I just wanted to relax but it was in my mind...what did i want to eat? Well, since I've been so goo this year with eating right and working out- it was an obvious choice....I wanted McDonalds. Not a regular kinda fix for me.....but every now and then, I just gotta have a nasty 'ol Big Mac. It was perfect. Perhaps when I'm older and my children want to take me out- then I'll get a bit fancy!

Awww...

What a darling picture! And you know how most babies don't resemble the adult? I can totally see you in that picture.

My husband loves the Golden Corral as well

And we've ended up there for "his" special days too when I would have picked something else. But what can you say? ;-)

Your mom is lucky to have such a doting son!

You're lucky, Archie

udging by the product, I'd say your Mom did a pretty good job there, Archie. I lost my Mother May 22, 2005 so you'll forgive me being a little envious....

Wish her a happy Mothers day for me, will ya?

Jimmy
