Looking the Other Way as the Band Plays On, Eh?
Thanks for enlightening my narrow mind, Curtis. Firstly, anyone in any office including the mayor has the platform to shout to high heavens that there is something wrong with the illegal alien situtation in the Mid-Atlantic Area as a whole including Virginia Beach. You will never be able to justify her apathy in good conscience by blaming other fellow parts of the system that have failed as well. Furthermore, the O Reilly factor is only one of the many times that the mayor finds it convenient to play stupid or feeble when confronted with a real issue. Anyone who has any brains knows that the economy of recent years was the mainstay in causing VA BEACH to grow and not her supposed leadership! Leaders lead, and a true leader will take a stand. But I understand that might make her uncomfortable as she'd make her rounds at banquets and ribbon cuttings, God Forbid! And the the best way of replacing these supposed irreplaceable "guest workers" is to take everyone on the public dole, from educational aid to welfare and put them out to work their debt off. I know, God forbid, we carry our own weight for once in our life...we might miss the movie deal or American Idol debut that we
The year is 2008
Thank you for your observances of our fallen. The year is 2008. In just the last few weeks I have read stories about countries that limit you to one child per family, people that call for the annihilation of another people, a military controlled government that prevents aid from reaching natural disaster victims, children who are taught to be suicide bombers, a country who has just allowed citizens to purchase cell phones, countries that don't allow women to be seen in public except in certain circumstances, and our own people who are FREE to protest in front of recruiting centers. These are just a few. I could continue. I only served 6 years for my country, but I saw enough of the world to be grateful for what I have. Thank you to all those that have served, those that serve now, and those (families) that have made the ultimate sacrifice. Myself and my family are forever in your debt.

I know you mean well in your feelings towards the illegals in America and like many folks living in Va Beach they too are a little tired of the Mayor. But no one without joking can blame the Mayor with the protection of the borders and the illegals who are invading America. There are many more illegals in Hampton Roads than you can count and anyone of those may be in the news one day killing one of our citizens. You can blame any Mayor, the court system maybe, Congress maybe and even the President. Please don't buy into the notion that we need the illegals for jobs American people won't do, they mean jobs that American people won't do because the pay is so low that kids at a fast food restaurant makes more. We could get homeless/jobless people to do these jobs. When we refer to illegals remmember that they also come from other countries not just mexico and they also drive without license.
We can blame the Mayor for many things but not for the illegal issues, don't spend too much time watch Bill O'Reilly and his rant.
Holding Nose at Tidewater Veterans Memorial
Meira Oberndorff has some gall to even show her face on such a day; as that, she has done everything possible to avoid facing the invasion of our own borders by illegal aliens. To force my daughter to sit through her disgustingly phony speech pushed the limits of endurance through patriotic duty on Memorial Day. May she remember the two dead teenage girls in Kings Grant, who's deaths due to an illegal, were not even enough to motivate her personally to act to secure our home borders.
