Local mom to be honored on 'Regis and Kelly'

Posted to: News

Dawn Weiss, the woman left paralyzed after robbers shot her in front of her young daughters in May 2007, will be honored by the "Live with Regis and Kelly" show for Mother's Day.

The show is scheduled to air 9 a.m. Friday on ABC.

Weiss was nominated for the "Mom's Dream Come True" segment by her husband, Mike Weiss. His letter called Dawn a "hero... someone who has inspired many by simply being herself."

Weiss and her daughters, Kayla, 10, and Destyni, 7, were attacked by four teenage gunmen at a house on Redmon Road. When Weiss tried to flee with the girls, the robbers opened fire. She was shot five times and is now paralyzed from the chest down.

The Weisses taped the show Wednesday in New York. They said they were sworn to secrecy about the surprises hosts Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa had for them but called the experience "amazing."
