Posted to: Elections News Virginia Beach

As she marks 20 years in office, Mayor
Meyera Oberndorf, the city's tiny leader,
seems to be almost everywhere all the time.

What the hell is wrong with you people?

Meyera Oberndorf is one of the most popular mayors in the nation. Virginia Beach is ranked as one of the best places to live, and this happens every year in dozens of "Top U.S. Cities" lists.

Why are you people complaining? Oh yeah, because that's what you're good at. You either can't or WON'T do something constructive, so you bash a woman who has dedicated her life to making this city as beautiful, safe and liveable as it is.

A wise man once said, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything." I couldn't agree more.

How n heck the people of Va

How n heck the people of Va Beach keep electing this fool is beyond me. All she is interested in is filling her pockets. MOVE OUT OF VA BEACH or vote her out.

What??

If she is the mother of Virginia Beach, then you better contact Social Services!!! She is all about her "friends" or "pet projects" for the RICH!
She is clueless to how most of the citizens have to live day to day! She is more like the Wicked Witch of Virginia Beach!

Mayor Obendorf...time for (urgent) change

OK Folks...I've read many negative comments about our "Mom" of Virginia Beach ("Mayor"). To set the record straight...Mayor is a good person but, people can be "GOOD" people and that doesn't mean their "GOOD" Leaders or make right decisions. I've been a VB Resident since 1982 and I'm ready for a change for a NEW Mayor. Mayor Oberndorf is "entrenched" in the "good-ole' boy" network and everytime I turn around...MORE TAXES from VB Residents. Excuse me? Last I checked the Military occupies over 50% of VB alone so why are the "VB Residents" paying the taxes for the Military to live here? VB Residents aren't exempt from Parking Fees at the oceanfront that WE pay for. The Tourists pay and we're flushed away from enjoying our OWN beach but we're still mandated to pay Parking Fees? As I see it, VB Residents have the right to go into any hotel and get 70% discount at any hotel because WE pay for that hotel during the offseason so what a hotel charges for $200/night during the summer, a VB Resident should be paying $60/night. We have to get rid of "Tax-emDorf"

Good Bye!

Hopefully this is an obituary of sorts. At the moment she is in over her head and has to depend on her husband and Vice Mayor Jones, a rude individual, for guidance. Let's get someone with leadership skills.

Mayor Oberndorf is much like

Mayor Oberndorf is much like the rest of us; we have benefitted greatly from the natural assets of Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads and perhaps the best that can be said is that we have done our best not to make matters worse. Being in office as these natural advantages were asserted, it is hard to measure her ability to lead. Afterall, the true measure of a leader is performance in challenging times, and while we have had our challenges, the city and the region have prospered as the port, the military, and the overall economy have improved greatly. Did Meyera actually lead these institutions to grow and invest in Hampton Roads? Probably not, and to the degree that leadership was asserted on the city council, the hard lifting to create consensus and the conditions for prosperity were done by those behind the scenes. Perhaps it is time for her to accept the gratitude of the citizens of the Beach and leave the political scene at the best of all possible times.

Legacy

I think what I'll remember most about her leadership is how she shot down regional cooperation and proclaimed Virginia Beach independent from the other surrounding cities, shouting out, we are better than you and we are going to compete against you. Hold your conferences in our hotels not theirs. Shop here not there. Remember that? We don't want our residents spending their money anywhere else but in Virginia Beach she said, (even though a lot of them earned their income in other cities). She gave no hope for a regional transportation system with Norfolk that could ease traffic and safe energy. Hopefully we'll have a mayor that is willing to work with other cities for the greater good of this region.

She's the mother of virginia beach?

How embarrasing. I'm glad I live in Chesapeake. Sno-cones, t-shirt shops, and massively ugly hotels where there once was a beautiful beach. Quite a legacy.

By the way esbar

I misspelled her name for a reason!!! She`s junk!

Not a response from johnh31265

Your juvenile name-calling aside:

Unless you can prove otherwise, I will believe the city, the Navy and the newspaper...they all say that NO ONE has lost their home involuntarily to BRAC. If people were being kicked out of their homes, I am pretty sure the media would pick up on it.

If someone you know did, they sold of their own free will and probably made a pile of money.

Unfortunately, you appear to be someone who will make up stories to make your point. Look, if you can point to a policy or vote she has made that you disagree with, fine. Just don't resort to false statements.
