SHOW PREEMPTED IN HAMPTON ROADS:
Because of severe weather this morning in Hampton Roads and North Carolina, "Live with Regis and Kelly" was preempted by WVEC-TV. The station planned to air the segment with Weiss and her family during the noon news show today. Viewers will have a chance to see the entire show Saturday morning at 2:05 a.m. on WVEC-TV.

Dawn Weiss, a mother of two who was shot and paralyzed during a robbery last May at a home in Norfolk, today received a check for $100,000 on the “Live with Regis and Kelly” show.

Her husband, Sgt. Mike Weiss, nominated Dawn for the television program’s “Mom’s Dream Come True” award. Dawn Weiss was selected from more than 10,000 entries, according to the program’s producers.

The Weisses, who now live in Ocala, Fla., flew to New York with their daughters, Kayla and Destyni, to tape the show.

Hosts Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa announced on this morning’s program that they had worked with Kmart to award the family a $100,000 check. The family also will go on a Disney cruise.

The program could not be viewed in the Hampton Roads market because of continuing storm coverage by local ABC affiliates.

Thank you Daniel for your kindness

Thank you Daniel for your kindness...I will live and strive to be better for tomorrow. Life has thought me to enjoy and appreciate the things that I used to never even think twice about.....this is what I want people to see....life is indeed a precious gift...my family and I have been blessed with so much and we are humbled and very grateful for all we have been blessed with....for all who has touched our lives...who has reached out to us...who included my family in their prayers each time...who e-mailed me during my roughest time in life to send their regards...THANK YOU! Please know we are so grateful for everyone's help. Our plan is to build a house that is equipped for my wheelchair...to get a van that I can wheel in and drive....I cannot express in words how thankful we are.......in response to not being able to see the show...it can be viewed on regis and kelly web: http://bventertainment.go.com/tv/buenavista/regisandkelly/contests/momsdream2008/index.html

Take care Dawn Weiss

A GREAT WOMAN OF COURAGE AND STRENGTH

Live for tomorrow Dawn Weiss; live for tomorrow. You and your family are in my prayers. I'm so sorry for the horrible thing that happened to you. Your strength as an individual is most noteworthy and admirable I must say. These words may offer you no comfort, but I must tell you how I feel. In all honesty, you are a source of inspiration for me. AnD the funny thing is, I don't even know you.

Sgt. Mike Weiss, thank your for your service to our great country, especially during our time of need.

If your family is ever in the tidewater area again, seek me out and I will help you in any way that I can.

Daniel Causey

Maybe if you were in the tornado warning area you wouldn't mind having your programming interrupted. I know that I was sure glad I was able to watch the news during the warning in our area. I don't have cable and could not have just switched over to the weather channel for updates. Having the local news allowed me to know when to gather my children in a closet and when the warning has passed my area. Seriously, I don't know how we would have known that it was safe to come out after 30 mins if we weren't able to watch it on the local news. And, no, a ticker tape would not have cut it because the county we live in is shaped so that we were in the clear zone and the rest of the county was still under a warning. If I had just had a ticker tape (instead of a live map) telling me my county was still under warning, we would have ended up staying in the closet for over an hour. Try that with four kids when two of them are babies.

Very nice

Of course, it would have been better if the local news would STOP interrupting programming and simply leave a ticker tape at the bottom. Everyone can certainly read it and if the local news wants to give more detail...then they should direct the viewers to another channel. It seems like each of the news tries to outdo the other. But stop interrupting the programing!!!!
People know there are other channels (i.e. Weather Channel, and in Hampton Rds Cox Channel 227) which can provide the information. And people CAN read the ticker tape information at the bottom of the screen.
