A fire at a Norfolk home this morning in the 1300 block of Chanelka Road is being blamed on an overloaded electric extension cord.

Dispatchers were called about the blaze at 6:27 a.m. and the fire was under control shortly after 7 a.m.

Two people inside the home got out without being injured, said Jack Goldhorn, fire department spokesman.

The home was heavily damaged, Goldhorn said.  The fire was ruled an accident by investigators.

Chanelka Road is near Chesapeake Boulevard and Bayview Boulevard.
