Police arrested a suspect in connection with a campus lockdown at the University of Richmond on Tuesday, the school said Wednesday.

Campus was locked down Tuesday as police tried to locate a man seen wearing a holster with some type of handgun. Police on Wednesday located and interviewed a suspect, the university said Wednesday afternoon.

Seth Adam Newman, 19, of the 1700 block of Chadwick Drive in Henrico County was charged with a felony count of hiding his identity, the university said. He was charged with two misdemeanor counts of impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Most students are not on campus because undergraduate classes ended last week, the school said.

Library employees reported seeing the man in Boatwright Library between 2:30 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. and called police, a statement from the school said.

Officers from the University of Richmond, Henrico County and the city of Richmond helped look for him.

Police searched all campus buildings and areas nearby and did not find the man as of Tuesday evening.

“Police do not know if the gun was real or not,” the statement said. “The suspect, however, did not threaten anyone on campus with the gun.”

The man was wearing a fake beard and wore a brown jacket with the word “sheriff” on the back. He carried a green duffel bag.

“The suspect was later seen removing the fake beard and brown jacket,” the school statement said.

Police would not say where they found Newman, said Linda Evans, a university spokeswoman.

Newman was being held in the Richmond jail Wednesday night with bond set at $10,000, a jail spokesman said.
