PORTSMOUTH

Police were out looking for a bear this morning after someone called to report seeing it near the Chesapeake city line.

The bear sighting was reported about 6:19 a.m. from the area of Gust Lane and Wilson Street, not far from Victory Boulevard, dispatchers confirmed.

Officers searched for the bear until about 7 a.m. with no luck, dispatchers said.

They could not say for sure if animal control officers would pick up the search later this morning, they said.
