Princess Anne recreation center pool a half-inch longer

VIRGINIA BEACH

The Princess Anne Recreation Center’s pool reopened today, seven weeks after it closed for construction crews to move a pool wall.

The wall was moved at a cost of about $30,000 so the pool would meet state championship regulations.

In 2003, ten national competitive swimming records were invalidated when the pool was found to be about a half-inch short of the official 25 meters.

It's worth it

Some municipalities are putting 30K in combatting gang violence. Why can't we invest in something that will keep the youth busy and competitive? This 1/2 inch could save a life.

Here we go again

Reid being his usual oppose-every-project stance. If you enjoy swimming (as I do) or are on a swim team, this means loads. $30,000 well spent.

Stay on top of this Pilot!

I would really like to see how many regulation meets they have at this rec center to justify the cost.

What a waste of tax dollars!

This wasteful spending serves to reveals why the City Council of Virginia Beach no longer deserves the right to represent citizens of Virginia Beach.

Worth it for Pool Rentals

Having children on swim teams, I can tell you that the money is well spent. Organizations from across the state went to other pools when it was found this one wasn't regulation, now I'm sure they'll come back, bringing their rental fees with them.

A great investment!

Although I'm sure that there are many things that the city could have used $30k on, this is an investment into the children of Virginia Beach. Swimming is an unbelievably rewarding sport and although it sounds ridiculous, this 1/2 inch means a LOT to the kids that compete there...Former Silver Dolphin

Amazing

$30,000.00 for a half inch and yet the people of Virginia Beach keep re-electing the same group of people. Is it any wonder we can't get any roads built or fixed here without a tax increase.
