NORFOLK

A raccoon found on Curlew Drive last week has tested positive for rabies, according to the city.

The animal was the second raccoon to test positive for the disease in the city this year, according to a news release on the city’s Web site.

The most recent raccoon was found Wednesday in the 5900 block of Curlew, the release says.

All animal bites and scratches should be reported to authorities in the event of exposure, the release says.

In Norfolk, call the Environmental Health Division of the Norfolk Health Department at (757) 683-2712 to report incidents in that city.

The city and Health Department also recommend that residents make sure vaccinations are current for pets, keep pets confined to the home or yard, and staying away from stray or wild animals.
