A community foundation has raised about $90,000 for the city's tornado victims in the week since the storm, and it will soon get more help from the Washington Redskins.

The Redskins will donate all proceeds from its upcoming Beach Blitz family auction to the Suffolk Foundation's Tornado Relief Fund, said Billy Hill, executive director of the Foundation. The event is May 17 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

The Suffolk Foundation will distribute its fund only to agencies that promise to use 100 percent of the money on the tornado victims, Hill said. It has already made a $10,000 donation to the Salvation Army.

The largest donations to the fund so far have been $50,000 from the Suffolk-based Birdsong Corporation and $25,000 from The Virginian-Pilot, Hill said.

About 25 people have also sent in contributions. ranging from $25 to $5,000, Hill said.

Live Nation, the operator of The Verizon Wireless Virginia Beach Amphitheater, has also offered to allow the Suffolk Foundation to set up a fundraising table during the Brooks & Dunn concert on Friday, Hill said.

The United Way of South Hampton Roads said late last week it had raised about $400,000 for its disaster fund.
