To save ntelos, do the math

Re 'Long road back for nTelos Pavilion' (editorial, May 10): The nTelos Pavilion is suffering from a problem for entertainment venues nationwide. The ordinary working person, though he'd like to attend several performances a year, cannot afford to pay.

Lowering the ticket price would improve the bottom line and fill the pavilion.

They are currently averaging 1,700 people in a 6,500-seat venue. At $60 per seat, 1,700 sales will bring in $102,000. If the tickets were sold for $18, the house would be full and 6,500 sales would show an income of $117,000.

The result would be more top- line artists, more sales at the refreshment bars (increasing profits), new customers and happier regulars.

Info

The ticket price are a result of musicians often charging more. This is a result of music theft, or so they will tell you. Thus, you should never feel bad when someone burns you a Cd from one of these bands.

However, many bands such as Citizen Cope charge very low prices for their tickets. One Ticketmaster added their fees onto the ticket price, the cost of extra charges increased the face price by 50%.

It would be easy to fight these problems if we joined together. Pearl Jam tried but received little vocal support.
