Attendance went up at Norfolk’s second spring wine festival.
The annual AT&T Spring Town Point Virginia Wine Festival on Saturday drew about 5,000 people, according to a count by Norfolk Festevents, the wine festival organizer.
That compared to 3,500 to 4,000 people who went to Town Point Park for the spring festival last year, said Karen Scherberger, the executive director of Festevents.
“It’s a nice way to start the new season,” she said. “Last year was our first year to try it in the spring and it was a huge success.”
About 24 wineries set up tents, each offering samples of about six wines, Scherberger said.
The festival drew heavily from Virginia Beach and brought pedestrians to downtown restaurants. Patrons wandered up Granby Street when the festival ended at 6 p.m.
The fall wine festival will be in its 20th year this year.

Here is a little news flash for you: not everyone who drinks wine is a drunk. Additionally, not everyone who gets drunk gets behind the wheel of a vehicle. I have a question for you, do you think all dogs are poodles as well? Especially since all poodles are dogs...
Incomplete Story
How many people attend the festival in October? That would put the spring attendance in perspective.
Good publicity
After the girls-gone-wild video, norfolk now is proud they can draw even more alcoholics into town point park. Maybe that could be the opening slogan for the half-moon jumbo-tron. How many DUI arrests were made this time? Seems the norfolk police had another prime venue to get the drunks off the streets.
