SMI to buy Kentucky Speedway

Bruton Smith's Speedway Motorsports Inc. is expected to announce at 3 p.m. today it has bought Kentucky Speedway.

The track, which holds about 66,000, does not have a Cup date. The Nationwide, Truck and IndyCar circuit run there.

Adding the track adds to SMI's portfolio but also gives Smith the leverage to move a race from one of his tracks to there. Or could be part of a grander scheme that has yet to come. If Smith moves a race date from any of his tracks, though, Las Vegas would likely get that date to give Vegas two races.

More later today.
