Synopsis
The greatest adventure of all time begins with "Star Trek," the incredible story of a young crew's maiden voyage onboard the most advanced starship ever created: the U.S.S. Enterprise. On a journey filled with action, comedy and cosmic peril, the new recruits must find a way to stop an evil being whose mission of vengeance threatens all of mankind. The fate of the galaxy rests in the hands of bitter rivals. One, James T. Kirk, is a delinquent, thrill-seeking Iowa farm boy. The other, Spock, was raised in a logic-based society that rejects all emotion. As fiery instinct clashes with calm reason, their unlikely but powerful partnership is the only thing capable of leading their crew through unimaginable danger, boldly going where no one has gone before!

Its not what you think, then again it is
I keep hearing that old fans will not like this movie. First and foremost Im a huge fan, yes even visited a convention or nine... Ok I was at first HUH, what the heck... then i remembered as a kid the shock and awe of new things. This is exactly it, In case you didnt catch it Its not our timeline, or rather the timeline we are used to from the 60's. It was a wormhole time collapse...remember the big hole thing with the ship sticking out of it. its a break back on the whole space time continium, for more information on that see "Q"..
Bad origin
This particular Star Trek movie was more of a "Dark Knight" type movie. The origin was no where near what I have read in books about Kirk. I think now they should come out with a Television Series called "Starfleet".
I thought the movie was
I thought the movie was awesome. The characters played their counterparts very well...great rendering of the original stars. I thought Scotty and Bones were really great. The action and special effects were nothing to sneeze at either. Great movie!
The Star Trek creaters had
The Star Trek creaters had to basically re-do the entire Star Trek storyline in order to gain a new and younger fan base. It worked and the new movie revives the series.
"Star Wreck"
If you want to see a summer action movie with special effects, then go see this. If you are a original series "Trekker", then you will be disappointed. JJ Abrams busts Star Trek canon to pieces with this "Star Wreck".
DISAPPOINTED
I had looked forward to this movie but came away disappointed.
The biggest problem is that it is a "prequel." Since we already know that James T. Kirk will become the Captain of the starship Enterprise, there is no suspense when he, and other characters who will be in the TV series, get into tight spots. We know that they are really never in any danger.
There are situations that are inconsistent with the TV series. For example, Spock's mother does not die. She appears played by Jane Wyman. Also, I don't believe the planet Vulcan is destroyed. I may be wrong, but doesn't Spock visit Vulcan during the TV series.
Not quite what I expected...
I was a so-so fan of the series and originals, so I wasn't going to go crazy if the movie wasn't true to the original, but... I really didn't think it was a GREAT movie. Being somewhat confined to the original characters probably kept the plot weak, but I think they COULD have done better. It wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen (Trapper County War, Caddyshack 2) but I could've lived with saving the money and watching it on DVD/BR.
You go Spock!
This movie is fantastic! My kids loved it (14 and 17) and they aren't huge Trek fans. This movie is action PACKED! We all want to go see it again, maybe in IMAX.
Horrible!
As a true Trekkie fan, I can tell you that I was very disappointed...though the CGI and action is pretty good...the cardboard acting (casting) was horrendous! Worst of all, the plot is very confusing (made just so they could bring back Leonard Nimoy into the film)...I should have waited for the DvD. The only decent acting is done by the guy who plays Spock. Chris Pine was horrible...no comparison with Shatner!
Awesome
Good story line and action plan to go see it again which i rarely do anymore.
