Steal this look

I really like the way Jay-Z dresses. This look right here is slick but casual; as I've said before, all black is always instant cool. Here we have some cool cargo pants and a black shirt, white shoes, done. I would personally lose the undershirt and tuck the black one, and you've got a really smart look here. You could wear this to the office (if you work in a biz-caj place);  for a date or dinner or after work for drinks, you could throw on a light blazer over top and look really cool. Dig it.

Speaking of fashion, tune in to the HearSay show tomorrow on 89.5 from noon to 1 p.m. to hear yours truly talk about the impact that Sex and the City had on fashion. I will be joined on the call by the amazing Robin Givhan from the Washington Post, which I'm a little intimidated by because she's awesome but nonetheless, I can talk about clothes and that show with some degree of knowledge, since I was living in NYC in the era of SATC.

Among my early observations:

- Mad girls were walking around with them stupid flowers on their chests right?

- Also, Sex and The City gave many women the freedom/encouragement to dress (and behave, to some degree) like complete skanks, which was an obvious boon to men everywhere.

- Carrie -- supposedly a freelancer writer who could afford to live on the UES and buy designer clothes  -- also made people feel like it was totally OK to blow most of your rent on $500 shoes, cigarettes and booze, or a combination of all the above. Many people wisely saw that this was a fantasy but some of us learned that the hard way. Hello debt consolidation!

*Oh, and yes Asner, no shade. You're the best. :)
