Suffolk churches come together for prayer service

Posted to: News Storms Suffolk Weather

A church-sponsored thanksgiving and prayer service for survivors of this week’s tornado is planned for 7 p.m. Monday at Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church in Suffolk.

“The tornado hit our city and caused a lot of devastation, but there wasn’t a single life lost. It’s amazing, it’s a miracle,” said the Rev. Michael Ola, the lead organizer of the event.

At least a dozen Suffolk churches are participating and more are expected, he said. The gathering will be multiracial and interdenominational, said Ola, who leads New Life Church, Suffolk.

The service is open to the public, including people who don’t belong to any faith community.

“This is a time where the community, especially churches, can come together to get to know one another,” Ola said. “We want to come and celebrate life and pray for the victims and see how we can help them.”

Westminster is at 3488 Godwin Blvd. in Suffolk. For more information, contact Ola at 277-1194 or Westminster at 539-0540.
