SUFFOLK

The City Council will hold a special meeting Monday to discuss real estate assessments.

The meeting, announced this afternoon, follows the council’s 7-0 vote late Wednesday night to fire Assessor Maria Kattmann.

Kattmann’s deputy, Rosa Bowe, is currently serving as interim assessor.

The special meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Monday in the City Council Chamber, at the Municipal Building at 441 Market St.

Councilman Charles Parr said the council may use the meeting to extend the Board of Equalization’s hearing schedule in order to accommodate all the assessment appeals that have been filed this year.

The meeting announcement, released by city spokesman Dennis Craff, said members of the City Council have begun the process of appointing a new assessor.

Things Never Change in Suffolk

Things never change in good ole Suffolk. Their city government is as inept and as corrupt as ever. This goes on year after year. They must make the worst hiring decisions of any city ever known to man! Their solution to every problem is to simply fire someone.

Unfortunately, they are firing the wrong person! ...as usual...

Let's bring things into focus

Great, Suffolk's council, led by Johnson, will congregate again to make more mistakes...how much will these cost?! Poor, poor Suffolk residents, having to put up with inept "leadership" and whining rich waterfronters that don't want to carry their fair share of the tax burden...council should spend some money on pacifiers...temporarily silence the problem people that lead council astray...did I imply that council members are being bought? Couldn't be. People of Suffolk, WAKE UP! The majority of citizens are not rich!...they are regular good people that out number the rich 40 to 1! Don't let the rich keep the corrupt in office, vote them out during every election. And make the rich pay for their property just like everyone else! The rich waterfronters' little short-lived secret is now public, no more free rides on the backs of the poor and middle classes. Hallelujah!

Want to know what else the rich don't want you to know? TAKE A DRIVE NEXT WEEKEND and see how they live (or just visit the city assessor’s office and “fly” over those properties online, using the system that you Suffolk tax payers purchased...or use goooggle eaarrth.) These houses are often HUGE, ca

Last year's complaint....

After last years complaint that I and several other Suffolk Citizens drafted to the Commonwealth's Attorney concerning the assessment process and how the City Council apeared to manipulate it, this pales to what they have now done... While it was clear that there have been many complaints about how water-front properties were assessed this year, it would have been appropreate to allow the Board of Equalization (BOE) to determine if fault was found and changes necessary, before such actions taken. Then the council would better understand any error and have cause for action, if any was due...

Now it looks like Mayor Linda Johnson and others on council have jumped to the assumption that fault lies only with Ms. Kattman, even after they have taken advantage for years to use assessments to raise taxes. This is even so, given the glowing words of praise they heaped upon her and her office after last year, whe the CWA investigated their conduct to manipulate her assessments. It can't be both ways and it now looks like a big payment will be made from the public coffers to correct another council error, firing her without proper and well documented cause. Prudence would have dictated a

Ditto the last guy

While I certainly do not enjoy paying taxes, this is such a colossal waste of money and time. Johnson and the rest of these clowns need to voted out! New candidates for council...ANNOUNCE HERE!

The City Council will hold a special meeting ....

...you idots better have a meeting to see where you are going to get the money to cover the lawsuit that is coming!!!!
