Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer today withdrew the scholarship offer of quarterback Peter Rose after the Amherst County senior was arrested Friday at school on drug charges.
"Each scholarship offer we make is contigent upon a number of requirements," Beamer said in a university news release, "one of which is maintaining the high standards required of each recruit in their community, school and on the football field. I am disappointed that this action was necessary."
Beamer said there would be no further comment on Rose, who faces two misdemeanor marijuana charges and two felony charges for selling drugs within 1,000 feet of a school. Rose was busted, along with six other current and former students, in a 10-month undercover investigation by the Amherst County Sheriff's Office.
Rose is accused of selling drugs to a deputy who had been posing as a high school student. Rose had signed with Tech in February, after leading his school to back-to-back Group AA state titles. He was the Group AA state player of the year this past season, after accounting for nearly 3,000 yards and 40 touchdowns rushing and passing.
He likely would have been a defensive back for the Hokies.

What’s wrong Tech’s worried that this kid’s won’t play well drug free or he won’t pass the NCAA’s drug policy smell? I wonder how long he’s been selling drugs? Maybe Tech’s offer wasn’t enough to cover all of his expenses and he needed to supplement his income. Hopefully this young man ... will learn from his stupidity.

Bad judgment
Another talented young man making incredibly bad choices. Rose had an incredibly bright future and a scholarship to a fine college. I am glad Coach Beamer made the right decision early, before too much time and money is wasted on someone who apparently doesn't care about himself or his future. There are many other talented student athletes who would LOVE his chance and who do not have magnificently bad judgment.

Your reaction is quite ridiculous and childish. This isn't a VT problem, the kid never became a VT athlete, never enrolled in school. If you are a UVA fan, better look at what's going on in Charlottesville before you start commenting on VT recruits.
