Three arrested in connection with looting of tornado-damaged home

Posted to: Crime News Suffolk

SUFFOLK

Three men were arrested Saturday after allegedly looting a home damaged by last week’s tornado, police said Monday.

A resident reported seeing three men taking items from the remains of a residence in the Hillpoint Farms neighborhood, said police spokeswoman Lt. D.J. George. She said the caller followed the men until they were intercepted by police.

The men were carrying a bookbag containing several items covered with debris, George said. The items included Pokemon cards, Playstation video games, a bottle of Bailey’s Irish Cream liquor and two pill bottles. The name and address on the pill bottles matched the location the men were seen searching.

David James Kew Jr., 22, of the 600 block of Hillpoint Blvd., was charged with possession of a controlled substance, petit larceny, trespassing, public intoxication and possession of a concealed weapon while intoxicated. Oscar F. Fransisco Pena, 21, of the amphibious assault ship Wasp, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, petit larceny, trespassing and public intoxication; and Kenneth Ray Dennis, 20, also of the Wasp, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, petit larceny, trespassing and underage possession of alcohol.

George said Kew lived in the area affected by the storm. The other men were visiting him at the time. All three men were taken to Western Tidewater Regional Jail, where a $5,000 bond was set for each.

It's the New Military

Well, this is the new military. To get more military inductees, the standards have been loosened, and the military is taking men and women with criminal records, people convicted of manslaughter, misdemeanors, even felonies. This is the new military folks. Last time I heard ex-cons weren't even supposed to be in possession of weapons. Now they're giving them weapons, and throwing them at the enemy. I feel so safe and secure in my home, knowing we now have trained, armed killers on the loose and connected with the military, too. It is no doubt, these two sailors caught looting, probably already possessed a criminal record before they were admitted to the military.

Looters

I'm hoping the 2 idiots on the Wasp also face Captain's Mast. I wonder what story they'll come up with then. I hope their CO throws the book at them. And what happens regarding the civilian charges is irrelevant.

So Right You Are So

No doubt David is right in his comment.

Three arrested in connection with looting of tornado-damaged hom

im so sad for the victims of suffolk damaged areas
words cannot describe how i feel about them , my prayers are w/ you all
as i sit here still in disbelief it's more of a shocker to read about this 2 sailors looting from the remains of a devastated house, if they do these kind of things in their own homeland i wonder what they can do while intoxicated in another country , it must be a great way to be ambassadors of our principles about this great country " way to go "
must also be some part of the principles of the "WASP" as some of this ship's sailors have made headlines lately " keep up the great PR guys"
as for WTKR whines : get with the WASP they can hook u up w/ people to gain access to restricted areas

Sooner or later

I was just waiting for these types of stories to come rolling in. It's sad that during a time of need, people will still find it necessary to make people's lives even more miserable and frustrating. It's sad to say this may not be the last of these incidents, and this probably wasn't the first!

So...

They will plead not guilty because they didn't know what they were doing because they were drunk and some bleeding heart judge will let them off with a slap on the fingers. After what these people went through then have some scumb bag like this steel what little they have left from them is inexcusable, period. Let them sit in jail for a year and MAYBE they might learn something.
