Tornado victim donations to be collected at Brooks & Dunn concert

From Dee Larion at Live Nation:

In conjunction with 97.3 The Eagle and the Verizon Wireless Virginia Beach Amphitheater, the Suffolk Foundation will be collecting monetary donations for tornado victims at the Brooks & Dunn/Rodney Atkins concert this Friday, May 9th.  The Suffolk Foundation will have a table set up at the main entrance of the amphitheater and are asking everyone who will be attending to donate to the Tornado Relief Fund.

The Suffolk Foundation received its very first contribution to the Tornado Relief Fund on April 30 from the Birdsong Corporation.  The Suffolk Foundation Executive Board immediately approved the distribution of $10,000 of the $50,000 donation to the Salvation Army.  The Salvation Army has assured the Foundation the funds donated would be used to support directly the Suffolk tornado victims.  Since the first contribution, the Foundation has received substantial support from the Virginian Pilot, and has been contacted by several organizations to assist with the raising of funds for the Suffolk tornado victims.

Ms. BJ Corriveau, Vice President of the Community and Charitable Programs of the Washington Redskins has offered to support the Tornado Relief Fund by donating all proceeds from the Family Auction to be held during the Beach Blitz weekend at the Virginia Beach Convention Center on May 17, 2008 from 6p.m. until 10 p.m. It is hoped everyone supporting the auction would be especially generous this year to give needed assistance to the tornado victims.

It is important to note, that it is the Foundation’s goal to use the donated funds to support agencies whose assistance goes directly to the Suffolk tornado victims.  The Foundation has set up a separate, interest-bearing checking account named Tornado Relief Fund, and all monies donated and interest earned are “earmarked” to assist 501 (c)(3)agencies directly support the Suffolk Tornado victims.

Large donations from corporations, foundations, and businesses and industries are greatly appreciated and especially needed, but the Foundation wants all individual citizens to know that the tornado victims need their support as well. Anyone wishing to donate money to support the Suffolk Foundation Tornado Relief Fund should send their check to:

Suffolk Foundation
1426 Holland Road
Suffolk, VA 23434

Contact the Foundation for more information by calling (757) 923–9090.
