HAMPTON
A three-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 64 in Hampton has been cleared, but is causing added delays on the interstate.
The crash happened at 4:22 p.m. at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel.
By 5 p.m., traffic was moving in both directions but delays were heavier than normal, said Luefras Robinson, a spokeswoman for the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Westbound I-64 traffic was backed up more than five miles. Eastbound traffic was backed up about four miles.
In Virginia Beach, an overturned vehicle is causing delays on Interstate 264 west near First Colonial Road. At 6 p.m. the left three lanes were closed, VDOT said.

Sorry guys but. .
No one really has any reason to be upset at traffic. Why not ride bicycles to work? They are the most intelligent way of commuting, and moreover, there would be less fat and over-stressed people around.
HRBT traffic delays
Due to a total incompetency on behalf VDOT HRBT traffic delays are getting worse everyday. When /if there is an accident inside the tunnel, leave 1 lane open & send wrecker to pick disabled vehicles away immediately. There is no reason to block/ stop tunnel traffic unless accident blocks both lanes. Also partially to blame on tunnel back-ups are driver(s) who slam their brakes when entering/ exiting the tunnel. Speedlimit signs inside the tunnel clearly states, maintain 55. Why it is so hard to maintain 55, instead we are crawling through the tunnel 20-40 mph, however as soon as vehicles are out of the tunnel, most drivers are going 55-65. If you are unsecure driving through the tunnels, take a HRT bus or let someone else drive through the tunnels. Wake up VDOT, make tax dollars work better.
Everyday
It seems like everyday there is a report of an accident and traffic back up. It's only going to get worse. Sooner or later we are going to have LA traffic.
Yet.....
The experts on the MPO and the HRPDC seem to think nothing needs to be done to help traffic congestion at the HRBT! Maybe the MPO and HRPDC should be staffed with traffic engineers, mass transit experts, instead of politicians looking to enhance their resume for further political gain! Ask mayor fraim how many times he travels through the HRBT? See if he, or any of the MPO politicians understand the real traffic issues in tidewater? I bet not. But alas, they want the third crossing to enhance port revenue.
Increase the fine!
Any idiot found guilty of causing an accident in or near the Hampton Bridge Tunnel, M&M, or James River Bridge should automatically receive an additional $5,000 fine. Hit them where it hurts! And that goes for the idiots who run out of gas near or in the tunnels...same heavy fine!!
