CHESAPEAKE

Fire destroyed a mobile home Tuesday in Chesapeake, the fire department said.

No one was home at 2710 Ike St., Lot 17, when fire started, fire Capt. Steve Johnson said. The time of the fire was not immediately available.

Investigators believe the fire may have been caused by candles left burning in the house, but they are still investigating, Johnson said.

Firefighters worked to contain to the fire to the home and not let it spread to nearby mobile homes, he said.

The location is off Va. 168 in northwest Chesapeake.

The American Red Cross assisted a family of four with food and clothes, said Rob Shapiro, a Red Cross spokesman. The family had a place to spend the night, he said.
