Tuesday's girls results: Churchland goes 14-0 in softball; First Colonial clinches tie for Beach soccer title

 SOFTBALL

Churchland 4, Lake Taylor 3

The No. 10 Truckers (14-2, 14-0) capped an unbeaten run in Eastern District play Tuesday as Ashley Cornell struck out 14 in a six-hitter. Jessie Hall and Brittany Velazquez each contributed two hits.
 
Host Churchland meets Lake Taylor again Thursday in a 3:30 p.m. Eastern District tournament semifinal.
 
Ocean Lakes 3, Cox 2
 
Aisha Figueroa led off the seventh inning with a single, stole two bases and scored on Liz Riley’s single as the ninth-ranked Dolphins (11-6, 10-5) upended the No. 7 Falcons.
 
Landstown 9, Salem 2
 
Amanda Buffington went 2 for 4, drove in two runs and scored twice as the Eagles knocked off the fourth-ranked SunDevils.
 
Hickory 3, Western Branch 0
 
Jennifer Gniadek fired her second no-hitter and 13th shutout as the top-ranked Hawks (19-0, 17-0) topped the No. 5 Bruins and claimed the Southeastern District regular-season title.
 
Michelle Lighton smacked a two-run single in the fifth.
 

GIRLS SOCCER

First Colonial 2, Ocean Lakes 1

Megan Simeone scored with 3 minutes remaining to help the top-ranked Patriots (15-1 overall, 9-1 district) clinch a tie for the Beach District title.

 If Cox (11-3, 8-1) beats Bayside today it will tie the Patriots and First Colonial and Cox will have a playoff game Friday at Ocean Lakes to determine the district's top seed for the Eastern Region tournament. The loser will have to play its way through the district tournament to gain a region berth.

 Ocean Lakes goalie Becky Gold had 17 saves in the loss.
