Two commissioners now face a clear path in Pasquotank

ELIZABETH CITY

In November, Commissioners Bill Trueblood and Lloyd Griffin will go unchallenged in their re-election bids.

Commissioner Jeff Dixon, however, will face a re-election challenge from former City Councilman Bill Lehmann, who won the Republican nomination Tuesday.

Trueblood, a two-term commissioner, triumphed over his Democratic challenger, Clyde Weeks, in the race for the southern outside Board of Commissioners seat.

In the Republican primary for the at-large seat, Lehmann won the nomination over Fulford "Edward" Munden.

Before the primary, Munden had said he would support Lehmann if he was chosen by the voters.

"Bill Lehmann is a good guy," Munden said in the earlier interview. "It's up to the people and how they decide to vote."

Dixon has served as a county commissioner for four years.

In a candidate profile, he said he would like to continue to improve the standard of living and quality of life for county residents. He also said he plans to focus on storm water and education issues.

Lehmann said the board needs a change. He said citizens think the county's business is being done behind the scenes. One remedy he said he would like to see is the county meetings televised in a manner similar to the City Council meetings.

He also expects to address drainage, which is becoming a bigger issue as more development moves into the county.

"The general election is more of a challenge, without a doubt," Lehmann said Wednesday. "It's much more difficult to go against an incumbent... It will be more of an active campaign."
