Two Outer Banks firefighters will be honored next week when they are to be given medals of valor.

David Shrader, deputy chief of the Southern Shores Volunteer Fire Department, said Friday that the back-to-back ceremonies will be held Tuesday.

A Southern Shores firefighter will be honored in a ceremony at the Duck Fire Department at 6:30 p.m.; the second presentation will be held during the Southern Shores Town Council meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. at the Pitts Center, behind Town Hall in Southern Shores.

Shrader said additional commendations for exceptional actions in two recent emergencies will be awarded to members of the Southern Shores and Duck fire departments, the Southern Shores and Duck police departments and the Dare County Emergency Medical Service.

The names of the firefighters to be given medals were not released Friday.
