U.S. Postal Service rolls out higher price for stamps, lower costs for other services

Posted to: News

The price of a First Class U.S. Postal Service stamp goes up from 41 to 42 cents today.

Anyone with an old Forever Stamp won’t need extra postage, according to the postal service. The stamps are meant to be honored no matter when they were purchased.

In the past several weeks, the demand for Forever Stamps has increased to 30 million a day, according to the U.S. Postal Service Web site.

Since they were introduced in April 2007, more than 6 billion have been sold, according to the service’s site.

Also this week, the postal service plans to begin lowering prices for Express Mail at the weights and delivery zones used the most, according to a news release on the site. Incentives will be offered for Express and Priority Mail. Online users and high-volume Express Mail shippers will get quarterly rebates and price reductions.

The Postal Service also plans to offer guaranteed overnight delivery to Express Mail customers at additional locations.

Email now "forever"

No wonder everyone uses email now. Its cheaper!!! Maybe if the prices didn't go up every 2 months people would actually still use regular mail, instead of email, UPS and Fedex to send things.

stamps again!!!

I am guessing gas prices?? But if you bought forever stamps (picture of a bell) you should be fine. Just the next time you buy those stamps the price is increased.

I wish they would say something at the window...

I just bought two sheets of stamps to get me though the next few months. Guess I'll have to visit them again for some 1 cent stamps. The current 41 cent stamps should be honored until they're used.
