A 39-year-old Virginia Beach woman died early Sunday morning after another driver ran a red light and hit her car, police said.
According to Virginia Beach police spokesman John Allen the crash happened at 1:10 a.m. at the intersection of Lynnhaven Parkway and Rosemont Road.
A man driving west on Lynnhaven Parkway ran a red light and hit another car crossing the intersection, Allen said. The driver of the car that was hit, identified as Jane Gardner, 39, of the 500 block of Blackwater Road, died later at a hospital.
Police identified the other driver as Clyde D. Covington Jr., 29, of the 500 block of Woodstock Road. He has been charged with aggravated involuntary manslaughter, driving under the influence, disregarding a red light and not having a driver's license.
The crash remains under investigation.
