Weather service issues coastal flood warning

Posted to: News Weather

That National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood warning for Hampton Roads, the Peninsula and Eastern Shore.

At high tide this morning, dispatchers in Hampton Roads all said they had not heard of any major flooding with roads closed.

Low lying areas that normally flood after prolonged periods of rain such as Norfolk's Hague and the Colonial Place neighborhood were expected to fill up during the high tide at 4:47 a.m. and could fill again later today at 5:18 p.m.

The flood warning expires at 6 p.m. tonight, according to the National Weather Service Web site.

Sunny skies should return today and tomorrow but rain could return Thursday and stick around the rest of the week, the weather service says.

Today’s high is expected to be 65 with a warm-up tomorrow of about 73, according to the weather service.
