Web site tracks patients' quiet time at hospitals

Posted to: Business Health

Shhh...

The last time you spent the night in the hospital, was it quiet enough to catch some shut-eye?

The federal government's Hospital Compare Web site keeps track of such things. The information collected on the site shows how often local hospitals perform recommended medical practices - such as giving antibiotics an hour before surgery or whether heart-attack patients receive aspirin upon arrival.

It also keeps track of some of the more intangible things that can affect a patient's care, such as quality of communication, cleanliness of the room and whether it's quiet at night.
