Williamsburg storms trigger 28-minute suspension of play at LPGA event

Posted to: Golf Sports

WILLIAMSBURG

Tournament officials suspended play at 10:51 for 28 minutes this morning at the Michelob Ultra Open at Kingsmill as heavy storms rolled through the area, dumping nearly an inch of rain on the course in a matter of minutes.

Play resumed at 11:19 a.m.

The top two names on the leaderboard, though, had yet to tee off.

Mhairi McKay, who tied the course record Thursday with an 8-under-par 63, is scheduled to go off in the last group of the day.

Meanwhile, Annika Sorenstam, who is at 7-under, and Lorena Ochoa, who is at 6-under, were not scheduled to tee off until 12:43 p.m. That tee time was expected to be delayed.

Television coverage of today’s second round of the four-round event is from 2 to 4 p.m. on ESPN2.
