A grand jury on Wednesday indicted Mikell Deshawn Riddick, 17, of Suffolk in the death of a 24-year-old Portsmouth man.

Police said Jamar Deangelo Winfield was fatally shot about 1:30 p.m. on March 24 while driving his sport utility vehicle in the 400 block of Wilson St., near downtown. The vehicle stopped on Lee Street, about a block away, after the shots were fired.

Riddick, who turned himself in two days later, is charged with first-degree murder, shooting at an occupied vehicle, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

His arraignment is set for July 23.

Also on Wednesday, Christopher L. Allen, 21, was indicted on five counts of carnal knowledge of a minor. Prosecutor Nicole Belote said Allen had consensual sex with two 14-year-olds in August 2007 and in February and March of this year.

Allen was released on a $15,000 bond Wednesday, Belote said. He is to live outside of Suffolk with relatives and have no contact with the victims until the trial, she said.
