John Killinger, a former official for the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center Foundation, was ordered today to serve 12 months in jail for stealing more than $176,000 from the facility since 2003.
Killinger, of the 400 block of Kingswood Place, confessed to the embezzlement. He was ordered to pay $200,000 in restitution.
According to a search warrant affidavit in the case, Killinger, the former director of operations and sales, used foundation credit cards to buy more than 20 computers and components, gasoline, airline tickets and a limousine rental in New York.
