EASTERN SHORE
A 5-year-old Eastern Shore boy was killed late Saturday when he was ejected from a car driven by his aunt, police said. The woman was later charged with drunken driving.
Sgt. Michelle Cotten of the Virginia State Police said the one-car accident took place about 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
Nikia Upshur, 27, of Birdsnest was traveling on U.S. 13, just south of Sylvan Scene Drive, when her Chrysler Sebring entered the median, Cotten said.
The car overturned, and Kioakus Lamont Upshur Jr. was ejected, she said. The boy died at the scene, Cotten said. His mother was later notified.
Cotten said Upshur has been charged with driving on a suspended license, driving under the influence and not having a child in restraints in a car.
